1.Age of the child –
This is always a good place to start! Go to the section of the store, ask the staff instore or use the website finder to get all the toys for that age range. This helps reduce the amount of toys you need to choose from.
2. Interests:
A child who likes building stuff will love construction toys! A Paw Patrol fan would be so excited to see a Paw Patrol themed gift. Lean towards something you know your little one will like. 3. The “Is It Worth It” Test:
You’ve got to ask yourself some tough questions at this point – to avoid tears – yours and your child’s!!! Is the toy all shine and no substance? Is it of good quality? Are the manufacturers a renowned and reputable brand? Is the toy beneficial in any way?
4. Budget:
Just because it is expensive does not mean it is the best. Fix your budget and look for toys within that range that won’t break your bank account. It is okay to splurge (it is Christmas after all!) but just make sure you are getting the right quality for the amount you are spending.
It goes the other way too. Just because it is cheap does not mean you should automatically buy it. This wastes money.
So how can I do this? Look out for toys from well known brands and find the product that matches your budget. Don’t be scared to spend a bit more when you find the right toy.
5. Pick Engaging Toys:
Pick toys that actually make your child do something. Where a toy does all the work e.g plays music randomly while your child just watches, chances are that after being entertained for a while, your child will just move on from it. Money wasted. Look for open ended toys – toys that your children will play with in various ways.
