3 ways to make homework fun (yes it is possible)!

Ok parents – we all know the story. After a long day at school and at work, you open up the school bag and your heart sinks when you see loads of homework! (Teachers – whyyyyyy??? ). Well here are 3 easy tips to make the whole process fun or at least more bearable for you and your little ones!

  1. 1. Make sure it is a conducive experience. How? Create a study area or homework space that is attractive and comfortable. A hungry child is not going to tackle homework happily. So light snacks to go with it or after dinner -depending on your child. Anything to make the experience as nice as possible.

  2. 2. Set up a routine and make  it as interactive as well as rewarding as possible. Once your child is used to doing homework at a specific time, it becomes part of them. You can also reward prompt homework completion with TV time, hang out with friends time etc. Do homework with them – or do your own work alongside them if you like.

  3. 3. Do not – we repeat – do not try to be a hero!  There are apps, educational toys/resources, study groups, play dates, lesson teachers, after school clubs and even our dear uncle Google  – all there to make life easier. So why struggle? If you know traffic or late closing hours will make you start homework at 9pm – take advantage of any of these options to make life easier for you and your little ones.

  4. So there you have it! Hope you find these tips helpful and feel free to share any others that have worked for you. You might be saving a tired parent’s life right now!
